    Chinoiserie is a style of decorating which was intended to replicate a 'Chinese' look. This was accomplished through the addition of hand-painted decorations and appliques. It was popular in Europe during the 1700's. Since your piano was made in the late 1800's, the green paint and Chinoiserie was a fairly recent addition. To totally refinish a piano would cost approx. $2000. I'm also wondering if the 'black dirt' isn't just an antiquing glaze which is wiped over the paint in order to make the paint look old. This type of "antiquing" treatment was in vogue in th 1960's. If you send some pics to me I will try to descriminate further.
