It's to bad that lemon oil has such a following because it is essentialy useless for furniture. Since there are cracks we know that the bond between the finish and the wood is weak and requires reamalgamation. Wood Elixir contains an amalgamator just for this purpose, and although total restoration at this point is immposible, arresting the problem and sealing the cracks is something that will be accomplished with Wood Elixir. Improvement is the best you can expect. As for the brass, using Wood Elixir with fine steel wool will brighten and seal. This is a very subjective decision. You may want it to look as new or clean antique and both are possible with Wood Elixir.
