I personally do not use liquid sandpaper. If the finish is that bad that it needs refinishing then a liquid stripper is the way to go. But, you might be able to restore it with Wood Elixir to a condition where only touch-up is required. Do not use any abbraisive material including liquid sand paper on the gold. It will be ruined. If applying a new white finish, use semi gloss paint not flat.
