I know the feeling! Nail polish remover often contains acetone which is a very strong solvent. The only way to gain a perfect repair is to have it professionally done by a skilled technician. You can do a passible repair with Wood Elixir applied with fine steel wool. Perhaps a couple of treatments might do.
