    Hi Bob,
    After speaking with you yesterday, it appears that the Wood Elixir did what it was supposed to do, namely, to clean, smooth and restore the original finish and what it failed to do was something it wasn't intended to do, namely, polish. What happened in your case is that Wood Elixir remove the dirt and wax, subdued the scatches, smoothed and strengthed the finish. Since wax is used to polish wood finishes when they become dull, when the wax is removed, the dullness reappears. Also the use of steel wool will also abbrade the surface. But, now you have a clean finish on which to apply uncontaminated fresh wax. I recommend using wax containing Carnauba. Do not use wax containig silicone.
