The type of wood makes no difference. It's the finish that has the problems. Judging from the age, the piano has a lacquer finish which probably has a tint in it which has lightened due to UV light rays. A good test to see what color it will be after a treatment with Wood Elixir, is to put a drop of water on the lightest part of the damaged finish. The resultant color is what it will be. Wood Elixir will clean, subdue scrathes and scuffs, reamalgamate a dehydrated finish, bring out the natural color of the wood, seal the cracks and leave a buffable membrane of water/alcohol proof finish. Wood Elixir will not add additional color. The nicks and gouges can be filled and colored or just colored with magic marker. And you will save about $980.00! Do any structural repairs first. I would be very suspicious of anyone talking about "cleaning, polishing and SANDING" without talking about applying the new finish that would be necessary after sanding.
