    Water damage to kitchen table

My mother-in-law had a flower pot sitting on the kitchen table and it leaked and sat in the water for a day or so after I watered it. Water also ran a little ways from the pot. Where the plant was sitting is now a little black (mostly in the grain areas) and the areas are raised up. I think the table is an oak or oak veneer table. Is there any way I can fix this or should it be done professionally? Please respond ASAP.
