This is a tall order and is difficult to give meaningful advice without seeing the finish. An excellent book on this subject is "The Furniture Doctor" by George Grotz. In it he describes 33 ways to restore old finishes as well as 3 ways to deal with cigarette burns.
--Previous Message-- : This is a dining table that has had the finish : removed in an 10"x4" area by : acetone nail polish remover. Most of it is : down to bare wood. I am leary of : refinishing the entire top as it has a : matching hutch. But am sure willing to try : if I can get some good basic direction. It : also has a promenient cigarette burn in : the leaf. I have limited experience with : refinishing wood. I have in the past : stained and finished a set of double front : doors and they turned out well. Any help : would be greatly appreciated. :
