finish gone due to nail polish remover spill

This is a dining table that has had the finish removed in an 10"x4" area by acetone nail polish remover. Most of it is down to bare wood. I am leary of refinishing the entire top as it has a matching hutch. But am sure willing to try if I can get some good basic direction. It also has a promenient cigarette burn in the leaf. I have limited experience with refinishing wood. I have in the past stained and finished a set of double front doors and they turned out well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
