Wood Elixir will restore the existing finish. If the finish is missing, Wood Elixir will only seal the raw wood. If the water marks were white, they could be solved with Wood Elixir. Dark water marks indicate damage to the wood and must be bleached to remove. This would of course, mean removing the finish. If your piano is an 'upright' model, then the easiest way to proceed is to remove the top and have it refinished. Being shellac, it is easily stripped and would be an inexpensive job for a refinishing shop and not that difficult for the hobbyist.
