Of course Wood Elixir is this best product to use toi clean and restore an old finish....I'm surprised at the question. Whether or not the black staining is from age or from bad management of the furniture, Wood Elixir will improve and restore the original appearance and finish of this 1500's piece.
I must warn you that many dealers would prefer that you do nothing. If you do have a 16th century piece of some interest, have it appraised before you do anything.

: I have a 16th century side table with very
: intriquite design. The wood is Mahogony
: and has brass beading along the edges.
: The hand carved design is stained balck
: from years of sitting in various garages,
: and has some water damage. What I'm
: looking for is sugestions on how to clean
: the carved designe without breaking it.
: What's the best product to use and what
: are your suggestions for sanding rough
: edges in this same designe? Some of the
: areas are quite small and a tight fit.
