    removing black sealer?, from bottom of oak table.

    I'm in the process of repairing an old oak table, approximately 16"x18".

    On the underside of the top, there is a black sealer of some type. It is also on a shelf.

    Since I'm going to refinish the entire piece, which is in several pieces right now, how do I get this stuff off? And what is it?
