cedar lined Lane chest

I have a cedar lined Lane chest that has mothball smell embedded in it -- the previous owners stored mothballs in it with their things. I can't get the mothball smell out. Help!! :)

I have tried baking soda, and even airing it out in the sun for a day, open. I'm thinking of painting the inside with polyurethane to seal the smell in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
