: We recently obtained a wonderful old set of living room furniture. It contains a 3 piece sofa set with removable cushions and wood trim as well as 2 armchairs with non-removable cushions and wood trim. I've done some calling about the problem and was told by most "experts" that cleaning it with a rental steam machine or even having it done professionally, would not work. They said the fibers in the stuffing have oxidized and need to be replaced. I would love to just replace those, but they also said the fabric would tear if they removed it, therefore we would be looking at a full restoration job! This is not an option for us. We obtained these at a reasonable price and don't want to put alot into restoring, but we do want to be able to breathe fresh air when we sit on them!
: Do you agree or disagree with the advice I got and do you have any suggestions for us!
On a small piece, spay some fabric freshener, the kind that also kills musty odors. If this does not change the fabric, then spray the fabric all over. Please protect the wood!!!!
