Dresser drawers

I have a set of Maple dressers that are about 60 years old. They are in great shape but I wanted to change their look by putting on new drawer pulls. The old pulls are large round wooden circles. When I unscrewed the old pulls they left a very thin circle where the finish was worn away around the outer circumfrence of the drawer pull. When I put the new drawer pulls on the same faint thin circle is visible due to the smaller size of the new drawer pulls. How can I fix this without refinishing the entire drawer faces?
