Since the chair is only 60 yrs. old, the finish is probably lacquer which means that where the finish is missing, a good portion of the color is also missing because there is likely a tint in the finish. Short of refinishing, you can make spot repairs to the finish with spray lacquers which are available in a variety of wood tones. I prefer to restore what finish is left with Wood Elixir prior to spot treating so as to minimize the spot treatment required.
