Tacky touch to furniture

I recently tried to clean up an antique dresser I received. I know I have made a hugh mistake but don't know how to correct it. My neighbor told me to use GOOP hand cleaner. Which I did unfortunately I now have a tacky feeling to the furniture and in some places it seems to have removed the finish - which I assume to be shellac?Now what is there anything I can do to correct this mistake? I have 6 more pieces to the set to clean (which is all I wanted to do in the first place) and add a little shine.
