Your furniture is probably finished with lacquer. The water spots can be removed with Wood Elixir and the dehydration damage can be stopped and substantially reversed with a single application of Wood Elixir. No need to clean it first because Wood Elixir will do that too. It probably is walnut since that was the wood of choice 40 years ago but that dosen't matter because Wood Elixir will benefit any kind of wood with any finish.

    : I inherited my parents 40 yrs.+ dining room
: furniture. It has been in storage for 13
: years in Arizona and was finally brought
: to California. The furniture has rain
: water stains and on parts the wood has
: "dried" out to where it has
: small cracks. I think the wood is walnut.
: Will your elixir repair the dry wood
: & cracks? Thank you, Barbara
