This is exactly why Wood Elixir was invented. To clean and strengthen an original antique finish while maintaining the integrety and character of the original finish. 99% of antique finishes are shellac which is very vulnerable to damage from heat, moisture and dehydration. Wood Elixir does not replace that old finish, it revives it and strenthens the bond between the finish and the wood. What you end up with is not a new finish but, a well kept old finish. And a well kept old finish is more valuable.
