    The scratches that you see are lines of missing finish. Do this test for color: wet your finger and touch the scratch. If it disappears or is visually reduced, then it's a clear finish and can be permanently restored with Wood Elixir. If the color when wet stays light, then the color is in the finish (which is now gone) and you must add a stain to match the surrounding wood and then wipe with Wood Elixir to seal.
