    Water damage to unfinished wood

I own an antique Japanese "display table" that is unfinished. I don't know if it is teak or mahogany - it is a very soft wood. When I purchased this piece, there was water damage (dark ring) from watering plants. Recently the roof leaked in my office, and standing water caused further damage: large areas of "lighter/ashey" colored wood ringed with slightly darker stains.Help!
