    Refinishing a Cedar Chest

I want to refinish a Lane Cedar Chest made in 1945. Lane Company told me that there was veneer on this piece but it is very difficult to tell. The back is solid cedar so the veneer must be on the other sides and top. It's a golden brown color but I want it a natural looking color. How can I strip off this ugly color especially if it might be veneer? Please help.
