Cat scratches on my dining room table/ New and I need to repair it

I bought a dining room table and despite the fact that I cut down my cats claws, he has scratched the top of the table when he stretches out. I cannot keep him from sleeping up there, but I will be getting a glass top, cut to fit the table. Until then, I REALLY need direction into taking off these scratch marks. I have felt with my own nail and they are "indented" he has taken the first layer off. It is dark wood, and the scratches are lighter than the wood. It is a laquer based top. Please help if possible,
    much appreciation,
    Rebecca
