If the stain is dark colored or black, it is in the wood. It can be bleached out with oxalic acid but the finish must be removed first. If the stain light colored or white, it is in the finish and can be solved with a treatment of Wood Elixir over the entire surface. Let me know which it is and I can give you directions.
